When I grew up in Yorkshire, people hearing me say the name "Epworth" would more often than not, write down the name "Hepworth". This is a consequence of two contributory factors:
Yorkshire people typically drop their "H"s
Hepworths are more common than Epworths (I really mean in the sense of numbers!)
So great was this problem that I used to say "It's Hepworth without the "H"". However even this backfired occasionally when my name was recorded as "Hepwort"!
There is evidence within the earlier "Epworth" family tree for someone with the true surname Epworth being recorded as a Hepworth, so beware.
